2017 Audi Q7

Written by

Audi’s second-generation Q7 debuted as an early 2017 model and immediately took top honors in its first comparison test, where we lauded its carlike handling, zesty supercharged V-6, and overall fun-to-drive character. We gave it a 10Best Trucks and SUVs award for 2017, recognizing it as the best mid-size luxury SUV. A 3.0T Prestige model currently resides in our long-term garage. In short, it’s quite good and we like it a lot. While the Q7 is not cheap—base four-cylinder models start at $49,950, and higher trims can easily exceed $70K—the big Audi proffers an exemplary blend of seven-passenger versatility, luxury refinement, advanced technology, and spirited driving dynamics.

What’s New for 2017?

The Q7 comes standard with three-row seating and Quattro all-wheel drive. Available powerplants include a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6, both of which are backed by an eight-speed automatic transmission. Both setups are available in Audi’s Premium and Premium Plus trim levels, but only the 3.0T, which starts at $56,450, can be had with the range-topping Prestige gear.

Trims and Options We’d Choose

It’s hard not to be swayed by the performance and amenities included in our loaded 3.0T long-termer. That means the 333-hp supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 and the $9500 Prestige bundle, which adds 20-inch wheels, Audi’s MMI infotainment system with navigation and a Bose audio system, a head-up display, full LED lighting, heated and ventilated front seats, loads of active safety tech, and more. We’d also throw in the $4000 Adaptive Chassis package (four-wheel steering and adaptive air suspension) and the $500 Cold Weather package (heated steering wheel and rear seats). Additional kit, such as the $2400 Driver Assistance package (adaptive cruise control, auto high-beams, and lane-departure warning and assist) and a $550 Towing package, would push our final tally into the $70,000 neighborhood, but that’s an awfully posh ZIP code. Other features to enjoy in the Audi we built include:

• Audi’s 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit digital instrument display
• Four-zone automatic climate control
• Power-folding third-row seats
• 4G LTE connectivity with Wi-Fi and Google Maps
