The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro was introduced in April of this year and was promptly met with a resounding “hmmm.” On SS models, Chevy ditched the body-colored crossbar in front for a big sea of black plastic. The turbocharged fours stuck with a more classic look. I do see what the company was going for with the new SS — the last ZL1 had a big, wide-open sea of black in front, for air-intake purposes, and it looked, frankly, badass. The new one, not so much.
According to GM Authority, those redesigned ’19 SS models have been slow sellers on dealer lots, too. More importantly, since the Mustang’s redesign in 2015, Ford has been trouncing its pony-car counterpart, stretching into the first nine months of 2018. Chevy was hoping the redesigned model would turn things around.

Rumor now has it that Chevy will speed up the production version of its SEMA concept SS front end to satiate the Bowtie faithful. And side by side, the concept does look a lot better. If you imagine it in red or blue, even more so. Personally, I still like the ‘Stang’s look better, but the new fascia puts them very close in terms of front-end looks.
Also, note the change in placement of the Bowtie. On the original ’19 SS, it was on that black crossbar. On the new ones, it is back on the grille between the lights.
Will this change the Camaro’s sales fate? We’ll find out in the next few months.
