Kuo forecasted that Apple would debut the Apple Watch Series 5 in the second half of the year. It’s worth noting that the report was supply chain-focused, claiming that Apple has tapped Japan Display to supply the OLED panels for the wearable.

Here’s what you should know about the Apple Watch Series 5 — including what new features it could have and when it’ll be released.

Apple Watch Series 5 New Features and Updates

As mentioned earlier, the rumor mill has been fairly quiet on the Apple Watch Series 5. Due to that, there isn’t much information about what new features the next generation of Apple wearable will have.

Kuo, for his part, expects the Apple Watch Series 5 to come with a “new ceramic casing design.” Other than that, most of the rumors we have about the Apple Watch Series 5 come from Apple patents and other non-direct sources.

Past patents have suggested that Apple is looking into more advanced bands that could include tightness sensors and even a built-in camera. The company is also developing additional health sensors, such as a non-invasive glucose monitor.

Because of the Apple Watch’s focus, it’s likely that Apple will add some sort of health-related feature like sleep tracking. Tweaks to wireless charging and battery life are also pretty probable.

Lastly, the Apple Watch Series 5 may gain some other type of system feature that could allow it to become more autonomous than past models. Apple has slowly been moving the Apple Watch in this direction with the introduction of a watchOS App Store and the ability to install updates over-the-air.

Apple Watch Series 5 Release Date

Kuo’s research note doesn’t give a launch timeline beyond the “second half” of the year, but there’s a good chance that the Apple Watch Series 5 will debut next month.

Apple has announced virtually every Apple Watch, from the Series 1 to the Series 4, in September alongside new iPhone models.

Based on current reports, Apple is largely expected to debut new iPhones at a keynote event on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Preorders will probably open up that Friday, Sept. 13 and devices will likely ship out to consumers on the following Friday, Sept. 20.
