If you could skip a tampon and pad and just free-bleed into your gym shorts with a guarantee that no blood would leak through, would you do it? Thinx, a company that makes period-friendly undies and other apparel, hopes you will.
This week, Thinx launched Training Shorts — black athletic shorts with a built-in panty that claims to hold up to two tampons’ worth of blood. They retail for $65 and are available in sizes XS – 3XL.
The internal undie portion is made of four layers of fabric. The top layer “fights bacteria and absorbs any liquid into the über thin layer right beneath it, so you always stay dry,” the company explains on the site. So no, it probably doesn’t feel like you’re wearing a diaper.
If free-bleeding isn’t your thing, that’s fine — a tampon or pad works during gym class, sports practice, or any other workout. But if you’re looking for an alternative, these shorts might be for you.
