I always have a pair of headphones on me. That’s just been the case since high school. Any time that I’m going outside, I pop a pair in my ears, or on my ears depending on the situation, and I listen to music wherever I’m going. Everyone that knows me personally knows I’m usually equipped with some type of headphones.
But I don’t change things all that often. Or ever, really. I have a pair of over-the-ear headphones that I very, very rarely use, for example. I typically just use the out-of-the-box EarPods that I have lying around, of which I have many pairs these days.
The sound of the EarPods isn’t that great by any means, but they’re comfortable enough for me, and they get the job done in blocking out the outside world when I’m trying to pick up some groceries or something. They aren’t great, but they were free, and they serve their purpose well enough.
Except for that wire.
I’ve been dealing with wires for a long time and I still think they’re annoying. I’ve tried a variety of different methods to ease the annoyance over the years. Putting it under my shirt, up along my back, or under a jacket if the weather calls for it. But there’s usually always some kind of hitch that presents itself. They get stuck, you tug on them by accident, or whatever else might be the case. The wire, while crucial, is just as annoying sometimes.
The last straw for me was when someone hit that wire, while my phone was in my hand, and sent my device tumbling to the floor. Luckily the phone was okay, but I knew in that moment that I was done with the wired headphones. That wire had officially overstayed its welcome.
I’ve honestly been wanting to go wireless for quite some time. Ever since Ryan Reynolds’ character put truly wireless headphones in his ears (Definitely, Maybe). But I’ve also been waiting for the technology to catch up and make them actually worthwhile. And it looks like we’re finally there, and plenty of companies have options to choose.
Apple has its own on the way, but its lack of functionality in terms of physical music controls make them questionable for me. Bragi has two pairs now, The Headphone being its newest addition, and they seem to be the go-to option these days. There are plenty of other companies to choose from, and prices, as per usual, are all over the place. Samsung even has its Gear IconX you can go with.
And that’s just counting the in-ear options. You get so many more to sift through when you consider on-the-ear and over-the-ear.
So I wanted to reach out to all of you and pick your brain a bit. I’m curious to know if you are already using wireless headphones, and, if so, which ones did you go with and why?
