Wait, Heavy Cream Can Remove Chocolate Stains?

A young child eats a chocolate treat and gets chocolate onto his shirt.

You’re eating a candy bar or a chocolate chip cookie only to look down and realize there’s now a lovely chocolate spot on your shirt. Maybe your kid has just dripped chocolate down their chest. Either way, you’ve now got to figure out how to remove a chocolate stain.

As it turns out, heavy cream might be the best chocolate stain remover out there.

So how does this work exactly? According to MollyMaid, if you’ve attempted to simply wash out chocolate or allow it to sit for too long on a fabric, the fat in heavy cream can help lift the fattiness of the chocolate out of the fabric. So, how do you use it?

MollyMaid recommends pouring heavy cream directly over the stain and allowing it to sit for 30 minutes. Then, rinse the fabric and use a knife or spoon to scrape away any excess chocolate left behind.

Turn the fabric inside out and run cold water over the back of the stain to loosen it and make your detergent’s job easier. Apply your favorite stain remover, detergent, or dish soap to the area and lather. Soak the clothing in cold water for half an hour. Finally, wash the garment as recommended on the tag.

The next time you’re chowing down on a bar of chocolate or some chocolate ice cream, you might want to keep some heavy cream on hand in case of any drippage.
