Lettings

Q Is buy-to-let still worth considering? I have seen the tax changes which will limit the claiming of interest payments from April. I have also seen that buy-to-let lending is getting tighter and I wonder if it’s too late to consider this as an investment?

The returns are lower than they were 10 or so years ago and regulation is a lot tougher. The changes you refer to on bank interest (Section 24) are going to have a huge impact; many landlords have sold or are planning to sell up.

Institutional investors are entering the market, but we are confident they will encounter challenges and there will still be a role for the small landlord.

I would advise seeking advice from an accountant on the best way forward in your circumstances.
