Watch Telsa’s Semi Truck Glide to Highway Speeds With Ease

Tesla electric semi truck on a road

Ahead of Tesla’s Semi trucks getting delivered in December to Pepsi Co, the first company to receive the new all-electric Semi, we’ve received a rather impressive video of it in action. The rare glimpse shows off its impressively fast and smooth acceleration from a complete stop.

For those unaware, earlier this summer, the company surprised many by confirming the Tesla Semi would hit the streets before 2023. Then, we recently learned Pepsi ordered at least 100 semi trucks and would get several of the first models manufacturered.

Elon Musk recently said the Tesla Semi has a 500-mile range and is “super fun to drive.” If you’re wondering how fun, you’ll want to look at the video below spotted on Twitter. The Semi stops at a roundabout, then quickly accelerates to high speeds as it prepares to enter a highway.

If you’ve ever seen a regular diesel semi accelerate, it’s slow, janky, and shifts gears several times every few seconds. Nothing about it is smooth or fast. However, we’re seeing the exact opposite with the Tesla Semi truck gliding along thanks to all the instant torque of three electric motors.

While it’s unclear if the Tesla Semi spotted in the video has a full cargo load, you can clearly see how well it performs. There’s no shifting every few seconds, momentum losses, or anything. Instead, it just flies up the street like it’s nothing.

For the record, Tesla already confirmed the Semi could go from 0-60MPH in about 20 seconds, even with a full 82,000 lbs payload. I don’t know about you, but that sounds pretty impressive compared to the diesel-powered competition.

Tesla will release two variants, one with 300 miles of range for $150,000 and a secondary option for $180,000 that can go nearly 500 miles on a single charge.

The company claims that its new electric semi trucks are mostly maintenance-free. And those using one can expect to save $200,000 every two years per truck. The first time you see the Tesla Semi on the road, it’ll likely be pulling a Pepsi trailer.
